Get advice on Skin Abrasion nowAnother treatment method for fine lines is a procedure known as dermabrasion. It offers an effective and safe alternative to laser therapy for treating wrinkles.
Ideally, this procedure can be used to treat fine lines around the mouth, on the upper and/or lower lip (perioral lines). Furthermore, fine cheek wrinkles can also be reduced.
Dermabrasion is performed at Dr. Münzberg’s clinic under local anesthesia using a high-speed diamond-tipped abrasion head. During the procedure, the outermost layers of skin are removed down to the dermis. Reaching the dermis is indicated by pinpoint bleeding. Deeper dermabrasion would result in scarring and pigmentation disorders. First, a bandage containing a topical anesthetic ointment is applied for 24 hours. Subsequently, the treated area is treated with a wound and healing ointment for 4 to 5 days to prevent the skin from drying out. Mild redness may persist for 2 to 4 weeks after the skin resurfacing, but this can be easily covered with makeup. It is crucial to avoid exposure to strong sunlight (including tanning beds) for the next 8 to 12 weeks, as this can otherwise lead to pigmentation changes. The results of skin resurfacing last between 1 and 5 years and depend on the patient’s lifestyle habits. (Factors to avoid include: smoking, frequent tanning bed use, red wine, and the use of unsuitable cosmetics, among others).
Mesotherapy is a useful adjunct to the treatment regimen designed to maintain the positive results achieved through skin resurfacing at Dr. Münzberg’s specialist clinic. Dr. Münzberg also recommends a cream to help maintain these results, which is available for purchase at the clinic. It contains both aloe vera, to maintain moisture in the skin, as well as estrogens and progestins (female hormones), which promote the formation of collagen and elastic fibers and hyaluronic acid while simultaneously preventing their breakdown.
Dermabrasion can also be used to treat raised scars.
