This is because some people feel their lips are too thin and misshapen, which is, of course, perfectly understandable. A gentle injection of hyaluronic acid can wonderfully help thin lips achieve a new shape and the desired volume. The face appears younger, fresher, and simply much more approachable. It is important that the reshaped lips do not look artificial. After all, natural lips do not look like rubber dinghies but simply like beautiful, full lips. That is why we recommend that you start with a lower dose of filler and wait until the results have fully settled. First, we’d like to introduce you to the option of lip augmentation using highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid to enhance the volume of your lips exactly as you desire. Thanks to Dr. Münzberg’s years of experience, you can look forward to a natural-looking result. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and is completely pain-free, thanks to a technique known as infraorbital nerve block. With highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid, such as Restylane, you can expect results to last for about a year. How long the results remain attractive naturally depends on the product and your individual metabolism. This method is ideal for anyone who would like to try lip augmentation for the first time. Of course, the treatment can be repeated at any time, and the volume can be adjusted exactly to your preferences.

Lipofilling is also possible in the lip area, which involves injecting the patient’s own fat. This procedure first requires liposuction. Under local anesthesia, a very small amount of fat is removed from the lower abdomen and then injected into the lip area through small incisions. During this treatment, slightly more fat is injected than is strictly necessary. This is because some of the fat is naturally reabsorbed by the body. In rare cases, it may therefore be necessary for you to return to Dr. Münzberg’s clinic after 6 to 8 months to have the procedure repeated. The swelling of the lips usually subsides after five to seven days.

As a third option for lip contouring, I would like to introduce you to the use of a permanent filler. This is a product that does not break down and promises long-lasting results. This way, you can enjoy lasting results. The renowned specialist Dr. Münzberg recommends the top-quality product Aquamid, which consists of a highly cross-linked water content of 97% and a 3% polyacrylamide content. Polyacrylamide is a component found in foods such as french fries, potato chips, etc. However, it is present in Aquamid at a concentration of only one millionth, so you have no need to worry. What makes a permanent filler in aesthetic medicine unique is that it is not injected at the skin level, but into deeper structures—specifically, into the subcutaneous fat tissue and adjacent musculature. That is why we can assure you that no visible and/or palpable nodules or lumps will form. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and is completely straightforward. You will receive local anesthesia (infraorbital block).

When treating with Aquamid, Dr. Münzberg typically performs the procedure at his specialist clinic over two to three sessions spaced six weeks apart, so that you feel completely comfortable in your own skin. During the first session, we perform an initial, subtle lip augmentation so that you can gradually get used to the results. After six weeks, the lips can then be further injected/filled until the desired lip volume is achieved. In some cases, a third treatment may be necessary.

The cost of hyaluronic acid injections depends on how much is needed and, of course, on the condition of your lips. I would be happy to explain the expected costs during a personal consultation. Unfortunately, a procedure using autologous fat is somewhat more expensive than a hyaluronic acid filler due to the necessary liposuction. Dr. Münzberg will be happy to provide you with a cost estimate during your consultation appointment at the clinic.

A cosmetic procedure such as lip augmentation or lip correction should only be performed by a qualified and experienced specialist, such as a cosmetic surgeon. Even though injections with hyaluronic acid or autologous fat—a substance produced by the body—carry relatively low risk, unwanted side effects such as lumps and severe swelling can unfortunately still occur if too much is injected or if the injection is performed incorrectly. Should an injection procedure go wrong, we can easily reverse the result with another injection of Hylase. Possible risks include bruising and swelling, which usually subside on their own within a week. We would like to point out that inexperienced practitioners may inject too much hyaluronic acid into the lips due to a lack of practical experience. This can lead to unevenness and, consequently, unattractive lips.
